Even in the morally corrupt society of the Roman Empire, Corinth was known for its excessive moral decay. Every Sabbath he would go to the synagogue and seek to persuade those attending to trust in Jesus as their Messiah. They embraced the values of their Roman society, which divided over ethnicity (e.g., Jews vs. Gentiles) and social rank (wise vs. foolish, powerful vs. weak, noble birth vs. low and despised).
